TOUGH skin on the mango
a protective covering
no way to catch a glimpse inside
touch and smell my only guides
Its yellow skin, enticing
I buy two mangoes
yearning for a way into
summer’s abundance
or, at LEAST, expand our options

Home, on the kitchen counter
they sit – these reminders
that sunny, exotic places do EXIST
far from our tentative spring
where waves CREST and crash
on tropical shores
